Fox Cigar Bar’s happy hours go up in smoke
When Mitchell Fox opened Fox Cigar Bar more than three years ago, his intent was to design a place of discovery and relaxation.
“The most unique aspect is that you are able to create the exact experience you want,” explains Fox, who opened the lounge tailored toward a passion for his favorite spirits, cigars, and beer.
It’s this mentality that has made Fox Cigar Bar a Valley hidden gem, stocked with more than 400 spirits, including a collective 200 whiskeys, bourbons, and Scotches, and hundreds of premium cigars to offer the perfect pairing at any price point. There’s even a $6 cocktail and cigar duo.
Located south of the Airpark, Fox’s cozy outdoor patio, expansive bar seating, and intimate hi-tops provide an ambience sophisticated enough for a date, relaxing enough for an after-work drink, and lively enough for a group of friends or colleagues to converse over a cigar. With football season coming up, sports enthusiasts can get their fix with Fox’s 30-plus televisions.
But the real draw here is the unique happy hour experiences, and the potential to discover a new favorite indulgence, no matter what your price range may be. “The experience isn’t about the most high-end or high-priced items that we have at our lounge; it’s the more unique options you have the ability to try that fits your palate and budget,” Fox explains.
Patrons can try a range of clever cigar and cocktail combinations during the Tuesday happy hour experiences – think “Jameson + My Father cigars,” featuring a Jameson flight and a cigar for under $30, or “Empress Gin + Romeo Cigars,” featuring a unique botanical gin that changes colors.
But it’s not all about pairings or guided tastings. Explore a humidor that offers hundreds of premium cigars, ranging from beloved Cohibas and Romeo y Julieta to interesting picks like Pappy Van Winkle, L’Atelier, and Kentucky Fire. There are mainstream brands, smaller boutique companies, and varieties created just for Fox Cigar Bar.
The bar’s spirit offerings span everything from classic Scotches to snifters from a new distillery. “You can experience our Blanton’s, that is made exclusively for us, at only $12,” Fox says. “Then we have a lot of unique items like the Glenfiddich 40 Year, Pappy, most of the Macallan line, even the 30 year and M series, an extensive Japanese collection, and other rare spirits.” There’s also a rotating tap of 16 brews, often including local breweries like Gilbert’s 12 West Brewing Co. and Huss Brewing Company.
Don’t be shy about asking staff members for recommendations. “Our top priority is to provide the absolute best customer service in the industry,” Fox says. “We have some of the best cigar, liquor and beer experts on staff.”
