Scottsdale Airport hosted its inaugural Sky Kids “Fly Day” event last month at Southwest Jet Center with Pinnacle Aviation. Sky Kids is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that offers special-needs youth in the Valley a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to fly in a general aviation aircraft with an expert pilot, along with a parent or friend. Experiencing the wonders and enjoyment of flight allows each child to gain confidence and self-esteem by being “in command” of an amazing flying machine.
“We are honored to be a part of Scottsdale Airport’s first-ever Sky Kids event,” says Ken Casey, director of aircraft sales and acquisitions for Pinnacle Aviation. “Like most of our pilots, I, too, found my passion for aviation at a young age, and so we are thrilled to offer this opportunity to a group of incredible kids”
The Scottsdale event was an expansion of the program, which was previously held only in the spring at the Phoenix-Goodyear airport. Sky Kids is eager to continue extending this program, to give more special needs youth in the metro-Phoenix area a memorable opportunity to fly.
