Plenty of cool finds are waiting to be discovered in the Scottsdale Airpark area
By Lynette Carrington
There is, perhaps, no other place in the Valley that has a more colorful mosaic of businesses than the Scottsdale Airpark. As warmer weather gets into full swing, let’s take a look at the fun variety of retail and service businesses that you’ll want to get acquainted with this summer.
Summertime is the perfect time to improve your golf game or learn the sport from scratch. There’s no better place to get your golf on than Topgolf. Rather than hit the links, you can hit this hotspot’s temperature controlled play bays, which are equipped with misters and fans.
“Our goal is to be the best entertainment venue in Scottsdale and deliver an incredible guest experience every time,” said Gary Meyers, director of operations for Topgolf Scottsdale.
This summer will feature two-person leagues on Tuesday nights at 7 p.m. and four-person leagues on Monday nights at 7 p.m. For little golfers, Topgolf is conducting a Kids Academy running from June through August for kids ages 6 to 12.
Summertime prices are sizzling, too. Take advantage of the morning hours when you’ll play 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. for only $25 an hour, with up to six guests in each play bay. Play from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. for $35 an hour and from 5 p.m. to 12 a.m. (2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays) for only $45 an hour.
This isn’t your typical game of golf, though, and it isn’t an Xbox version that you could play at home. At Topgolf guests use real golf clubs and regular golf balls to practice their skills on the state-of-the-art outfield. Regardless of your golfing skill level, there is a game for every player, plus delicious food, beverages and cocktails to round out the experience.
Topgolf is located at 9500 E. Indian Bend Rd. Visit www.topgolf.com or call (480) 240-2402 for information.
Tom’s Thumb Fresh Market
There’s no business in Scottsdale Airpark quite like Tom’s Thumb Fresh Market, which is an artisan gift market, wine bar, barbeque café and auto detail service. After stopping in at Tom’s Thumb for the first time, it will surely become a favorite destination.
Grab a coffee at the coffee bar or wind down with a glass of wine from the wine bar inside on a big comfy couch or in the relaxing outdoor space. In either case, you’ll enjoy the dynamic and vibrant style of Tom’s Thumb Fresh Market, which bursts with unique sights, smells and sounds.
The market has its finger on Scottsdale’s pulse, offering breakfast, lunch and dinner choices that fit with active and on-the-go lifestyles. Whether a guest is a commuter or just someone wanting to try something different, there is something for everyone at Tom’s Thumb.
Known for its outstanding barbeque, visitors always enjoy the hardwood-smoked meats, including pulled pork, sliced beef brisket and pulled smoked chicken. You can also veer off the beaten menu track and try barbecue tacos boasting cotija cheese, red cabbage and chipotle salsa with pulled pork, pulled chicken or beef brisket. Barbecue platters are also a good choice for a hearty meal or something to take home for a delicious dinner.
If you’ll be dining in or shopping for awhile, be sure to get your car filled with gas and washed at Tom’s Thumb’s tunnel wash, or, for something extra special, get a hand wash and detail. In every area of Tom’s Thumb guests will experience stellar service and a one-of-a-kind shopping and dining experience.
Tom’s Thumb Fresh Market is located at 9393 E. Bell Rd. Visit www.tomsthumbfreshmarket.com or call (480) 513-8186 for information.

Desert Nail Spa
When you walk through the frosted glass doors and into the dazzling Desert Nail Spa—decorated in white and chrome motif and fun fixtures like tufted white benches—you may be surprised that you aren’t on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. The service and amenities may further convince you that you have suddenly become a movie star, with luxuries like hot towels, stone massages and beverages included in their baseline services. But once you check the prices, you’ll realize you’ve found the perfect Scottsdale oasis.
With manicure and pedicure prices ranging from $15 to $25 for natural options and up to $45 for acrylic, silk or gel options, you will get premium service that won’t break the bank. Desert Nail Spa won’t scrimp on the details.
Recently, they have also added threading, waxing and eye lash extensions to their menu of services. The facilities are equipped with extra exhaust fans to keep fumes and dust away, free high-speed wi-fi, universal phone chargers, salon water softener and a range of top-of-the-line sanitation devices and strategies to ensure that their facilities are among the cleanest you’ll find in the Valley.
“We only use the latest and best products. You’re really in good hands when you’re a client,” said Kevin Pham, who owns the salon with his wife Karen. “We want every client to have a little getaway for themselves.”
And it is definitely a delightful little getaway you will find when you arrive for your appointment. After moving to Tempe in 1997, and opening their first nail salon, the Phams made the move to the Airpark in 2002 and expanded to their new, lush facilities earlier this year. From early on, they have strived to be leaders in the nail industry. It doesn’t matter if you are 5 years old or 100, planning a unique birthday party or getting ready for your wedding, you will be pampered at Desert Nail Spa.
